Russian / The false friends
Хх
The letter “ха”
/kh/
Х х sounds like kh, as in the Scottish "loch". Looks like the Latin X. It is not: Х is a breathy "kh", as in the Scottish "loch", never "ks".
Where is Х on the keyboard?
On the phonetic layout it sits where its sound-alike Latin key would be. On real Russian keyboards (ЙЦУКЕН) it lives somewhere else entirely, since Cyrillic keyboards were never designed to match Latin sounds to Latin key positions.
