Russian / New sounds

Ыы

The letter “ы

/y/

Ы ы sounds like like the i in "roses", said further back in the throat; English has no real equivalent.

Where is Ы on the keyboard?

On Russian Phonetic, ы is on the key QWERTY prints as "y", right index finger. On ЙЦУКЕН it is on the key QWERTY prints as "s", left ring finger, on the home row. Two different physical keys for one letter, which is why moving between the two layouts is its own skill rather than a detail.
